About the opportunity

This isn't an internship where you'll spend your days watching from the sidelines.

Our Engineering Internship Program is designed to help develop the next generation of Sales, Applications and Project Engineers, combining technical knowledge with practical problem-solving, commercial awareness and real customer experience.

You'll become part of a working engineering team, learning how engineering solutions are developed, delivered and applied across some of Australia's most important industries.

From understanding hydraulic systems to supporting customer projects, you'll gain exposure to the technical, operational and commercial sides of engineering, with experienced professionals there to guide you along the way.

Opportunities close to home

We're recruiting engineering students for opportunities across selected Questas Group businesses in Australia. Interns will be based at participating branches in their respective locations, working alongside local engineering teams. We are currently seeking engineering students in Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle and Perth as part of our 2026-2027 intake.

These are locally based opportunities, so you won't be expected to relocate to Sydney to participate in the program. Occasional travel to customer sites or other facilities may form part of your experience, depending on your placement.

These are paid, part-time opportunities designed to fit around your university studies, with the potential to work additional hours during university breaks.

You'll be supported by experienced engineers and mentors, with opportunities for practical learning and professional development throughout your internship.

What you'll actually be doing

Depending on your team and location, you'll have opportunities to:

• Work alongside experienced engineers on real customer projects, from understanding technical requirements through to developing practical solutions.
• Gain hands-on exposure to hydraulic systems, components, equipment and engineering applications.
• Assist with technical calculations, documentation, quotations and engineering proposals.
• Join customer meetings and site visits to understand engineering challenges firsthand.
• Learn how engineering teams work with customers to develop practical, commercially viable solutions.
• Gain exposure to workshop operations, manufacturing processes and the technologies supporting Australia's essential industries.
• Contribute to meaningful projects while developing your technical knowledge, communication skills and commercial awareness.

You won't be expected to know everything from day one. You'll have experienced people around you to answer questions, share their knowledge and help you grow.

What we're looking for

We're interested in engineering students who are curious, motivated and keen to learn.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• Current enrolment in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline (including Electrical Engineering), preferably in your third or fourth year.
• An interest in practical engineering, technical problem-solving and understanding how things work.
• The confidence to communicate with different people and explain technical ideas clearly.
• An interest in how engineering solutions are developed for customers and applied in real-world environments.
• Initiative, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to develop your engineering skills.
• Availability to work part-time alongside your university commitments, with flexibility during university breaks.

No experience in hydraulics or fluid power? No worries.

We'll help you develop that knowledge. What matters most is your willingness to learn, get involved and make the most of the opportunity.

• Sales Engineering: Combine technical expertise with customer relationships to identify challenges, develop solutions and support business growth.
• Applications Engineering: Apply engineering principles to design, specify and optimise technical solutions for real-world applications.
• Project Engineering: Help turn engineering concepts into reality through project planning, coordination, installation and delivery.

For interns who successfully complete the program, there may also be opportunities to progress into graduate engineering positions across Questas Group, subject to business requirements.
